What's the best time of day to trade forex?

Market session overlap matters
Forex trades 24 hours, but activity concentrates during major session overlaps. The London-New York overlap (8am–12pm GMT) typically sees the highest volume and volatility. The Tokyo session (9pm–8am GMT) is quieter but active for Asian pairs like USD/JPY.
Lower costs during peak hours
When volume is high, spreads tighten because more traders are buying and selling simultaneously. During quiet sessions, spreads widen and slippage (getting worse prices) increases. If you want tight spreads, trade during overlaps.
Avoid major economic announcements if you're new
High-impact news (central bank decisions, employment reports) can cause 50+ pip moves in seconds. If you're still learning, avoid trading 15 minutes before and after these announcements unless you understand the risks. Once comfortable, some traders profit from the volatility, but it requires skill and tight risk management.
Start by identifying which session aligns with your schedule and timezone, then trade during that window consistently.
